The wacom driver in Ubuntu 9.04 supports automatic configuration, but it conflicts with manual device entries for wacom tablets in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, causing the X server to crash either on startup or shutdown. Please comment out or remove the entries from xorg.conf to get rid of the crashes. (358643)

On 31/03/2009 didn't work any more (after upgrade of packages?) New attempts here finally successful. Had been originally solved by adding
at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base . How to get the parameters: the first is the module, type
cat /proc/asound/modules and use that string.
The second is the audio codec, ALC269, and one can get it in the first line typing
more /proc/asound/card0/codec#0
or
cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/info
or from Vista - Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Manage sound device.
With this keyword (ALC269) look in /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/ALSA-Configuration.txt.gz and find the exact line to be added at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
