- change of authentication, thunderbird, ipad mail, lap, old lap, windows
sudo vim /etc/cups/printers.conf
sudo service cups restart
- Following https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4128 (towards bottom) disabled hardware acceleration and smooth scrolling in firefox. Done this after a freeze (ultraslow behavior) at home (no dock), when visiting an open firefox tab on a downloaded large pdf file. Got (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing in Xorg.0.log and was cured by killing firefox. Let's see.
- From docK or beamer remember to switch bac. k to single head (disengage or unplug) before closing the lid. Also check restart of network. The gnome-session-fallback applet is not working properly?
- 17/04/2014 attempt to cure freezes and grey pages. Installed
sudo get-install unity-2d
sudo get-install gnome-session-fallback
sudo service lightdm restart [to restart the session manager, the splash is veery slow to respond,
click long on the clockwork icon and then release to display choice, the one you chose remains as default
chosen gnome no effect]
sudo apt-get install sysv-rc-config
sudo sysv-rc-config [stopped all vmware and vbox daemons move on X and use space to stop at all rc levels]
- wine and AdobeDigitalEditions (does not work!)
- 12-02-2014 Less often so 14-01-2014 ubuntu locks up occasionally under shotwell, hugin, chrome, acroread, libreoffice, ... seems an xorg issue, found non msg in the logs.
- installed non fundamental software: Hugin panorama creator, okular, PDF chain, YAGF (OCR not fantastic), beautiful soup (python),
- vpnc on psi does not work even on T5010. check
- rsyncing
oldpc34:/usr/local/matlab/toolbox/mulab-xxx/ to the local pat, mulab works OOTB; pruned by adapting matlab/startup.m , mulone.m and multwo.m to the new matlab path.
- installed matlab 2013a by downloading
http://www.fis.unipr.it/pub/win/matlab/R2013a/linux64bit.tar.gz , untarring it in tmp, unzipping the installer, copying the latest license.dat file from the same location onto /usr/local/matlab/R2013a/etc/license.dat (installation require reading license and copy-pasting the 2013a license key. Do the trick (works!). Create the wrapper mat (matlab -nodesktop) in bin.
- installed dropbox
sudo dpkg -i dropbox_1.6.0_amd64.deb and python-gpgme to go with it
- Installed xcrysden & vesta
- Installed pdftk (good, see http://www.pdflabs.com/docs/pdftk-cli-examples/) and PDF Chain (gui but limited)
- papercut-client copying the
/usr/local/bin/papercut-client/ directory (from pc34), issuing sudo sed -i 's/NoDisplay=true/NoDisplay=false/g' /etc/xdg/autostart/*.desktop , launching Startup Application (from Unity), making sure that pc-client-linux.sh is rw and inserting the following command: /usr/local/bin/papercut-client/pc-client-linux.sh as Papercut-client
- tweaking Nautilus, e.g. getting rid of Music etc.
gedit .config/user-dirs.dirs comment the unwanted dirs, save and restart nautilus by
killall nautilus and relaunch it from the taskbar
- acroread download from Debian and install with
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i386linux_enu.deb; sudo apt-get -f install error msg: dependency problems prevent configuration of adobereader-enu: adobereader-enu depends on libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.4).
dpkg: error processing adobereader-enu (--install): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured acrorea works, with many msgs on terminal and funny graphic aspect
- set up jnc copying .juniper_networks from pc34 (or alternativey downloading /usr/local/bin/msjnc from the link. Make sure that ncsvc is rws (sudo chmod +s ncsvc). It works invoking
jnc --nox PARMA from the terminal.
- followed trick to rsync from pc34 easily
- run cambia_utente.sh to rename /home as roberto.derenzi
- installed synaptic (not necessary, SoftwareCebter is fine), skype (including Canonical Partners repository), octave, vim, texlive, xfig, calibre, revtex, Virtualbox 4.3| ? remove!, vmware player 5.01 not working (does not compile modules), added aliases to .bashrc
- installed openafs, requires
sudo module-assistant auto-build openafs-modules
sudo m-a install openafs-modules-source
sudo /etc/init.d/openafs-client restart
- brightness control not working, suggested workaround (adding GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor" to /etc/default/grub and running update-grub2) does not fix. Manual fix
cd /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight
echo 1500 | sudo tee brightness # max brightness is 4542 now in should work by typing dim and brite to go back
- tried live and installed, grub not working, added a 1MB bios_grub(flag), probably useless partition and tried to reinstall grub, receiving error messages. Installed Boot Repair, and followed instructions therein.
- created an ext4 248.9 GB partition and a
- Gparted squeeze nsf data TI31050800C to 39 GB (only 10 free)
- 13.10 USB live on windows (Covati)
- UEFI, 320 GB hybrid, i5-3320M CPU @ 2.60GHz firm configured with Windosotto, partition: msftres (flag), ntfs system (0.5 GB), fat32 (boot efi, 260 MB), nfs data (290 GB), recovery (10GB)
