Wifi solved with ndiswrapper installed with synaptic. Administration/Hardware drivers Disable Atheros for linux. Then go to Atheros.cz site and download WXP drivers for AR5007EG i386 32 bit. Unpack in /tmp/driver and (as root)

  ndiswrapper -i /tmp/driver/nomedriver.inf

(two .inf files, not sure which worked). Long dubious message.

  rmmod ath_pci
  depmod -a
  modprobe ndiswrapper
  iwconfig

which does not work: no wifi capabilities. I then restarted the system and wifi works. Suspect that ndiswrapper was only instrumental to hardware recognition. Now Hardware drivers says: Support for 5xxx series of Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards (Enabled). Support for Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards (Disabled)

Nearly all well, resolution wrong, solved with Preferenze/Risoluzione schermo; wifi not working Italian Partitions 13 GB Rescue Samsung Vista, 86GB NFS Vista drive C: system, 50 GB drive D:, 50 GB /, 42 GB /home, 8 GB swap
Installed from live CD 386 desktop 8.10, starting from bootloader menu.

Vista + Office + Mozilla + Thunderbird + SSH (see Maria/InstallerRDR/HELP.txt)
