ALSAUpgrade

Index

Sound works now. Problems were also due to funny headset that works on some computers only.

The following is a messy log of the debugging:

Still problems at new reboots

to reload alsa drivers

  killall pulseaudio

  sudo alsa force-reload

  pulseaudio -D

L'ultimo comando non va da root (e neppure da user, dice

W: ltdl-bind-now.c: Failed to find original dlopen loader.

Era il mic di ing rotto. Perņ: boot with only mic jack inserted, connect earplug jack after, mic works, earplugs do not. Restarting alsa as above makes both working.

Finally set to work again with model=auto as options in alsa-base and after having switched to Vista, where recorded sound was inaudible, but playing with Control panel/Sound produced a reasonable result. Cannot say which of the two did it.

Following instructions in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046137&highlight=ALSA+Upgrade (login instructions in HELP)
Downloaded script in /usr/local/src, together with uxchecker and HD-Audio-Models.tar
This script is not apt compliant! Rerun it with -i after kernel or Alsa upgrades
Before upgrade saved /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base as .fujitsu (with option basic) and .orig (without)
Remains the same after upgrade.

Does not seem to improve the mic problem. Symptom: when mixer is invoked the recording channels are both muted. Unmute both, close mixer, reopen it and they are still muted.

Tried to start up pulse following http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=997506. Pulse itself works fine but mic still does not.

Tried from new user (pippo). Same behaviour.

Options in alsa-base. Tried with fujitsu and basic (others are quanta, eeepc-p703 e eeepc-p901, auto)

All the symptoms are as in the beginning. They were fixed by "basic" in 2.6.27.9
