On dic 1 - dec 2, 2016 FS did:
- discover that the kernel image in use was 3.13.0-32-generic since a long time despite upgrading
- remove old kernel images &tc 3.13.0-22-generic to 3.13.0-299-generic
- add kernel image 3.19.0-75-generic (presently the state-of the art with 14.04, since 4.xxx are not recommended)
- run grub-install on ssd (/dev/sdb) from 14.04 with, in order
- 3.19.0-75-generic (default)
- 3.13.0-103-generic
- other options including WINDOWS 8
- discover that the system uses grub installed on the HDD /dev/sda3/
- run efibootmgr to enforce the following priority, without success (the system still boots 0001)
- 0000 ubuntu (grub on /dev/sdb)
- 0002 OD (SDD on the OD bus)
- 0001 HDD /dev/sda3/ and others
- modify by hand the grub on the HDD to have GRUB as default, an entry pointing to the grub on the SDD that is descrived above
- so now one sees two grubs in sequence, the first pointing to the second, pointing to 3.19.0-75-generic
- now installation of kernel updates should upgrade the second grub and work fine
- remember to manually remove older images to keep two three kernel options at most. This is done from synaptic (
sudo synaptic
) marking for complete deletion under kernel (tic installed to show the on top). When one applies the procedure refreshes the grub.¸
